Hannah Martin
Double Pearl Shackle Necklace
GBP 1,800
London jewellery designer Hannah Martin is a self-proclaimed collector of all things beautiful, luxurious and, just to mix it up, even the somewhat macabre. Her unique twist on the well-established fine jewellery world is to create masculine pieces for men - that are also in danger of being stolen by their in-the-know girlfriends. With Martin’s touch, cufflinks and signet rings become contemporary collectibles, as gold spurs finish tough, black Akoya pearl necklaces. Having trained at Central St Martins, she founded the brand in 2005, after a stint at Cartier in Paris’ Place Vendôme.
Each tactile piece is made by hand using London’s finest craftsmen - both in Martin’s Clerkenwell studio and through an intricate network of specialists in Hatton Garden (the centre of London’s jewellery trade).
This 18k Yellow Gold Necklace is made with Black Akoya Pearls. Subverting the myth of the traditional double-row pearl necklace, this piece combines inky black pearls with a solid golden shackle clasp.
Only 200 of these will ever be made.
This necklace is made from 8.5 g of 18k yellow gold. The black Akoya pearls are strung by hand on grey silk thread.
The shackle was originally made by hand-forging and shaping each metal.
Size: 51 cm (pearl chain length while doubled), 18 mm x 14 mm x 3 mm (shackle), 6 mm (pearl size).
